Stressed? 7 stress relieving snacks

Feeling tired, overwhelmed, stressed, and in desperate need of nourishment?

How many times have you reached for the ice cream container in your freezer, or for the chocolate bar your kid hid in the closet? I will let you in on something; sugar causes your blood sugar to spike and then fall quickly, which can make your energy level dip, then you end up low in energy and stressed, and right where you started off!



These are some snacks you can munch on without ever feeling guilty later on!

Cottage cheese: cottage cheese is high in protein and calcium, it won’t cause your sugar level to spike and will keep you satiated for a long time. (Add some fruits and you’re set!)

Asparagus: they are hugh in folic acid, which can help stabilize your mood. (I for one love asparagus and can munch on a whole bunch!)

Oranges: fruits that are high in vitamin C play a role in fighting stress because it’s an antioxidant.

Almonds: a good source of vitamin B2 and E. Vitamin E has been shown to fight free radicals associated with stress. You can read more about almonds here.

Blueberries: very rich in antioxidants, high in fiber, and also rich in stress-fighting vitamin C. (Eat alone or add some yogurt).

Cornflakes: fortified with vitamin B and folic acid, they help in reducing stress. (Try the low fat if you are watching your weight).

Bananas: They are the perfect choice because they contain potassium and vitamin B6, both stress-fighting substances.

And one of my all time favorite, baby carrots and celery sticks with hummus dip. But if you’re still craving for ice cream, try frozen yogurt instead!
