7 best foods for your body!

If you ask most women about what they use as beauty products, they will usually come up with with at least five or six products, right? (Or more!).

Let’s have a look at how you can find products that boost your beauty, at a lower price and right there in your kitchen. (The last one will be surprising!)

greentea11-Green tea: green tea contains a fantastic mix of antioxidants that help keep your eyes healthy. This powerful tea also protects your eyes against sun damage.

salmon_wide-99a4215134a578926fa1dd5a3a106b9a2c6795ef-s6-c302-Salmon: salmon works miracles for your skin. The omega 3 in the salmon maintain your skin elasticity and works hard at keeping your cell membranes healthy. Trout, mackerel or sardines will also do wonders to your skin and will give you a glowing, younger complexion.

bowls-with-brown-and-white-eggs3-Eggs: eggs are great for your hair. Not only are eggs good for you when eaten, they can also be used as a healthy, organic hair mask; apply one beaten egg to your hair, leave for 10 mn, then rinse with cool water.

Curly-kale-0014-Curly Kale: Kale, like other green and leafy vegetables, is rich in iron, which is great for gleaming and strong nails. (A lack of iron in your diet will leave you with brittle and weak nails).

1351060770bevut5-Tomatoes: high in lycopene, tomatoes protect you from sunburn. To get a youthful skin that is better protected from the sun, add tomatoes to your diet.

brown_rice_1-e12653049834096-Brown rice: This powerhouse whole grain is great for weight management because it is a low fat source of energy. And being high in fiber, it will keep you feeling full for a longer time.

chewing-gum39727-Gum: chewing gum after meals removes trapped food and reduces plaque. Gum is good at preventing tooth decay because it helps you produce salvia, which neutralizes the acids that cause tooth decay . ( Use the sugar free ones).

Is it your time to change?

Come spring, we all feel energized and ready for a bright and sunny season. In many countries, Canada included, spring seems still so far away!

But i felt like i needed a change (we are in april!), so i went and cut all my hair off, bought me some bright lipstick and i feel already rejuvenated!

To be honest, i don’t know if chopping my hair off was such a great idea (at 16 it looks cool, at 42…), one of my daughters sent me crying faces when she saw my picture, and my mom hasn’t seen me yet (she’s a big fan of “feminity lies in the hair” thing)! But, i needed the change, and it’s only hair, so here i am!

Other changes would be adding some flowers to your home, bright colorful flowers that bring the outdoor inside your house.

As i mentioned here , flowers alter your mood and make you happy!

In mediterranean countries, they celebrate spring by taking advantage of all the new produce of the season, and cooking different dishes with different vegetables.

Sadly here, it’s a bit too early for that, but we still can cheat, by cooking lighter meals, using the produce at hand in different ways; i always have lemon in my fridge, and i believe that there is nothing like a squirt of lemon juice to brighten up a dish! My mother has always a dressing she makes ready in the fridge:

Lemon juice, olive oil, crushed garlic, salt and pepper, and a dash of tabasco. It’s great on salads, broccoli, cauliflower, grilled zuchini…Works with almost anything!

What are your plans for spring changes?

Why drink lemon water?

Lemons are abundant on the mediterranean. We use a lot of lemon in our food and in our everyday life. As it turns out, lemons can be found everywhere and we can benefit from them wherever we are!

Lemon is a rich source of vitamin C. It contains vitamin B, and minerals like calcium, phosphorous, magnesium, as well as proteins and carbohydrates.

I do a cure of lemon water every 2-3 months, for a period of 1 month, and i have to say, my skin looks way better!

Lemon water is a healthy drink, specially if taken in the morning. Daily consumption provides a number of benefits:

Good for the stomach: by drinking lemon water regularly, the bowels are aided in eliminating waste more efficiently.

Excellent for skin care: lemon is a vitamin C rich fruit that enhances your beauty, by rejuvenating skin from within. Daily consumption of lemon water can make a huge difference in the appearance of your skin; it acts as anti-aging and can remove wrinkles and blackheads.

Dental care: it relieves from bad smell and other problems related to gums.

Cures throat infection: it has anti-bacterial properties, therefore aids in fighting throat infections, sore throat and tonsillitis.

Good for weight loss: one of the major benefits of lemon water is that it acts as a great weight loss remedy.

Controls high blood pressure: controls also dizziness and nausea. it also reduces mental stress and depression.

Reduces fever: lemon water can treat a person suffering from cold, fever or flu.

Acts as blood purifier: diseases like cholera and malaria can be treated with lemon water as it acts as a blood purifier.

Try drinking a cup of warm water with lemon in the morning, for a month, and see the results yourself!

It’s very simple; a cup of warm water and the juice of half a lemon. DO IT.

Hair Boot Camp

After five pregnancies (one didn’t go through ), a major surgery, and stress, you can imagine how much hair I was loosing! It became serious when after every shower I could see the amount of hair on my brush!

I began with special serums, anti-fall shampoos, everything i could put my hand on, but nothing really worked. After doing some research, i found that there are some foods that help in hair loss, and being a believer in “food is the answer to everything”, I followed to the T the items below.

1. Protein
Hair is made of protein, and lack of protein can cause hair loss. Add protein to your diet: include chick peas, soy beans, almonds, nuts, pumpkin seeds…Not all protein comes from animal source.

2. Vitamin C
Vitamin C is crucial for healthy hair. Citrus fruits, such as oranges and lemons, are especially high in vitamin C, as well as green peppers.

3.B Vitamins

B vitamins are needed to grow hair. B3 helps increase circulation to the scalp, encouraging hair growth. It is best to take a supplement that includes all of the B vitamins; a B complex supplement. You can add too these foods to your diet: legumes, eggs, mushrooms, yeast, nuts and salmon.

4. Iron
The mineral iron reduces hair loss. Foods that are high in iron include liver, apricots and raisins.

5. Drink Water
Each hair consists of one quarter water. Drink at least 10 cups of water a day to stay hydrated and grow healthy hair.

6. Reduce Alcohol
Drinking alcohol reduces hair growth. Reduce or eliminate alcohol from your diet and you will see an increase in hair growth.

7. Vitamin E
Vitamin E is another nutrient needed to grow hair. It stimulates the circulation in the scalp and can be taken as a supplement or applied directly to the scalp in the form of serums.

8. Vitamin A
Vitamin A helps create vibrant shiny hair and spurs hair growth. Foods that contain vitamin A include eggs, kale, squash, and carrots.

I can happily say that it helped my case, i can’t say for sure if it is one item alone, the vitamins , the diet, or if it is everything combined that works to give a result.

I would love to hear from you if you had a similar experience, and what did you do for better results!

1,2,3 Make up routine!

Who doesn’t want to stay fresh and young looking?

Up till my thirties I was doing just fine, not many visible changes, life was good! Hitting my fourties was like a slap in the face; you wake up one day and suddenly you notice all those differences; sagging skin, tired eyes, those little lines around your mouth and eyes, and your neck feels like it has a life of its own! Well, unless you use botox or do something radical to your face (which I am not against at all, just don’t think I will ever do it), you learn to accept your changes and deal with it, or ignore it completely, like I do, because seriously who wants this headache?!

Eating healthy helps our skin, believe me, I am a walking living example. The Mediterranean diet is rich in vitamins, minerals, and a lot of antioxidants that work at keeping our skin healthy looking. The way we eat reflects on our face. That, and of course a little cosmetic help doesn’t hurt either! I am not going to give examples of brand names that you never heard of, or products that are way over our budget, I will just tell you what I use daily, and maybe you could share with us your secret?

I use drugstore products, easy to get, great price, and usually they meet my expectations!

This is what I use as a day cream, I’m not going to be a spokeswoman for L’oreal, but it works for me! Plus it has an SPF of 3o, so it is a great skin protector too.

The youth code BB cream I discovered a couple of months ago, and it works like magic! You should try it, and you will see the difference right away. Run, don’t walk, and go get it!

As for the dark circles around my eyes (I mean, really who doesn’t have those?), I have been using this product for the last 4 years, and i find it to be the best! Garnier skin renew. The best concealer I have tried till this day (and I have tried a lot, never getting the natural result I seek).

So these are my daily routine make up; day cream, the BB cream for a great glow, concealer, blush (again drugstore bought), and mascara.

Would you like to share your daily make up routine?
