Is it your time to change?

Come spring, we all feel energized and ready for a bright and sunny season. In many countries, Canada included, spring seems still so far away!

But i felt like i needed a change (we are in april!), so i went and cut all my hair off, bought me some bright lipstick and i feel already rejuvenated!

To be honest, i don’t know if chopping my hair off was such a great idea (at 16 it looks cool, at 42…), one of my daughters sent me crying faces when she saw my picture, and my mom hasn’t seen me yet (she’s a big fan of “feminity lies in the hair” thing)! But, i needed the change, and it’s only hair, so here i am!

Other changes would be adding some flowers to your home, bright colorful flowers that bring the outdoor inside your house.

As i mentioned here , flowers alter your mood and make you happy!

In mediterranean countries, they celebrate spring by taking advantage of all the new produce of the season, and cooking different dishes with different vegetables.

Sadly here, it’s a bit too early for that, but we still can cheat, by cooking lighter meals, using the produce at hand in different ways; i always have lemon in my fridge, and i believe that there is nothing like a squirt of lemon juice to brighten up a dish! My mother has always a dressing she makes ready in the fridge:

Lemon juice, olive oil, crushed garlic, salt and pepper, and a dash of tabasco. It’s great on salads, broccoli, cauliflower, grilled zuchini…Works with almost anything!

What are your plans for spring changes?

Are flowers a mood lifter?

I try having flowers at home all the time. Only problem my husband doesn’t like colored flowers, yeah can you imagine?! He likes white ones. I tell him they remind me of a funeral! So we compromise (like in every healthy relationship!), one week white, another colored…(please tell me I am not the only one with this problem!).

Since I was a kid I remember our home was always filled with flowers. My mother had made friends with a woman from a far away village, who would come every week with a tray on her head full of flowers (I’m not joking, a huge tray!), she would sit in our kitchen having a coffee while my mother visited with her in her broken Arabic(remember my mother is Italian!), then she would choose the flowers she liked and the flower lady would leave, till the next week. And this has been going on for about 30 years or more!

Flowers have a therapeutic effect on us. They make us feel good. Flowers have the power to lift your spirits.

The researchers at Rutgers University, after doing a 10-month study came to a conclusion that there is a linkage between flowers and moods. This has now led to the emergence of a new form of therapy- the flowers therapy.

The researchers have discovered that there is an instant effect on a person’s mood when you receive flowers. You break into a smile involuntarily irrespective of your age or your temperament.

Even those who were feeling low and were in a depressed mood felt good almost immediately after receiving a gift of flowers.

Flowers have a healing touch. They make people feel more optimistic and look at the brighter side of life.

Get yourself a bouquet of flowers today, or even better, make a person happy and offer them some!

Have a great weekend!
