As many of you are on vacation or were on vacation, the most asked question is: “How can we stay healthy when we’re on vacation?”

Well to tell you the honest truth , i have been on vacation for 3 weeks and i lost 1,5 kg!! How, i don’t really know, i’m eating the same kind of food, the same quantities. The only thing that changed is that here the main meal is at 2h pm rather than 5h pm, and i move more than usual.

What most people do on vacation normally, is that they take a vacation from their normal diet, and that’s why they gain weight. It’s ok if you don’t do your yoga or Pilates for a few weeks, the important thing is sticking to your diet. Healthy food, no junk. I am all for trying new dishes, but always ask what it is made of, even if you feel the waiter is going to hit you with his tray! And if you feel you over did it one day, take it easy the next. Don’t stress about it while you’re enjoying yourself, once you’re back to your routine, everything will fall into place. Enjoy your vacation, try all the desserts you want, walk more, and you will be just fine!

Many readers have asked on different occasions about weight loss and age. How much weight should we loose after 4o? Can we aim to be model thin or just being normal thin (as in healthy weight)?

When i was in my mid 30’s i was very skinny, mostly due to unhappiness and depression. I thought i looked good. My mother used to tell me i looked like an ironing board! Go figure! I didn’t starve myself or go on diets. Food just wasn’t important to me back then.

Now, almost 10 years later, i’m at a healthy weight, i look younger, and feel great!

What i want to say is that at a certain age our skin isn’t as elastic as it was in our 20’s. We can’t afford to loose much weight; our face will look older, the skin will sag quicker, and the glow of health won’t show..

So in my opinion, a healthy weight is the best. Follow a healthy diet, exercise regularly….and be happy! That’s my recipe!

7 Healthy snacks!

I’m always wandering in the kitchen, opening my fridge and trying to see if i can find something healthy to snack on instead of the ice cream in the freezer, the chocolate box my husband got from Belgium , or the bag of chips we got when we had friends over!

Here are 7 ideas for snacks that i tried, i have some favorites, but i would go for any of these instead of junk food! And they are all under 100 calories!

-Apple slices and peanut butter. Great if you feel like munching on something. One apple is enough.

-Fruit and yogurt:fat free yogurt, berries or sliced peaches or any other fruit you like, and a sprinkle of granola. Yumminess!

-Air popped popcorn. Need i say more? (no butter and no salt).

-Bread and jam. The classic: whole grain slice of bread and some natural non sugar added jam.

-Wraps: a slice of turkey, ham, beef or chicken, add some spinach and mustard and it’s a wrap!

-Hummus dip. With sliced carrots, cucumbers or celery. Delicious.

-Dates, almonds and nuts. Always works for me!
