7 Healthy snacks!

Desktop98

I’m always wandering in the kitchen, opening my fridge and trying to see if i can find something healthy to snack on instead of the ice cream in the freezer, the chocolate box my husband got from Belgium , or the bag of chips we got when we had friends over!

Here are 7 ideas for snacks that i tried, i have some favorites, but i would go for any of these instead of junk food! And they are all under 100 calories!

-Apple slices and peanut butter. Great if you feel like munching on something. One apple is enough.

-Fruit and yogurt:fat free yogurt, berries or sliced peaches or any other fruit you like, and a sprinkle of granola. Yumminess!

-Air popped popcorn. Need i say more? (no butter and no salt).

-Bread and jam. The classic: whole grain slice of bread and some natural non sugar added jam.

-Wraps: a slice of turkey, ham, beef or chicken, add some spinach and mustard and it’s a wrap!

-Hummus dip. With sliced carrots, cucumbers or celery. Delicious.

-Dates, almonds and nuts. Always works for me!

What about you? What do you snack on?

Stressed? 7 stress relieving snacks

Feeling tired, overwhelmed, stressed, and in desperate need of nourishment?

How many times have you reached for the ice cream container in your freezer, or for the chocolate bar your kid hid in the closet? I will let you in on something; sugar causes your blood sugar to spike and then fall quickly, which can make your energy level dip, then you end up low in energy and stressed, and right where you started off!

These are some snacks you can munch on without ever feeling guilty later on!

Cottage cheese: cottage cheese is high in protein and calcium, it won’t cause your sugar level to spike and will keep you satiated for a long time. (Add some fruits and you’re set!)

Asparagus: they are hugh in folic acid, which can help stabilize your mood. (I for one love asparagus and can munch on a whole bunch!)

Oranges: fruits that are high in vitamin C play a role in fighting stress because it’s an antioxidant.

Almonds: a good source of vitamin B2 and E. Vitamin E has been shown to fight free radicals associated with stress. You can read more about almonds here.

Blueberries: very rich in antioxidants, high in fiber, and also rich in stress-fighting vitamin C. (Eat alone or add some yogurt).

Cornflakes: fortified with vitamin B and folic acid, they help in reducing stress. (Try the low fat if you are watching your weight).

Bananas: They are the perfect choice because they contain potassium and vitamin B6, both stress-fighting substances.

And one of my all time favorite, baby carrots and celery sticks with hummus dip. But if you’re still craving for ice cream, try frozen yogurt instead!

10 things almonds are good for!

almonds

Almonds are a great snack, to munch on at home, take to your work place, even for kids, mix in some dried raisins and apricots, they will love it!

Research has shown that 90 percent of the fats in almonds are unsaturated, and the nuts are high in protein, fiber, calcium, magnesium, potassium, vitamin E, and other antioxidants. Almonds contain the most nutrients in comparison to all other nuts.

Benefits:

1-The brain: it contains many nutrients that help in the development of the brain.

2-Regulates cholesterol: effectively controls cholesterol levels.

3-The heart: reduces the risk of heart diseases and helps avoiding heart attacks.

4-Skin care: almonds help in improving the complexion of the skin.

5-Regulates blood pressure

6-Prevention of cancer: almonds improve the movement of food through the colon, thus preventing colon cancer.

7- Diabetes: help in reducing the rise in sugar and insulin levels after meals.

8-weight loss: the monosaturated fat contained in almonds satisfies the appetite and prevents over-eating.

9- Constipation: almonds are rich in fiber.

10-Boosts energy: almonds help in energy production.

I got used to eat almonds and dates as a snack instead of a bar of chocolate or a piece of cake. Try it for a few days, see how well you will feel!
